It\u2019s easy to steal photos, house information, names, numbers, email addresses because it\u2019s ALL online.<\/p>\n

Vacation planning can be fun and stressful. Platforms like Facebook are great resources \u2013 you see comments from others, recommendations, ask questions, ask for suggestions, and seek feedback finding a place\u2026 it\u2019s a scam victim buffet for cybercriminals.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scammers are very \u201chelpful\u201d<\/strong> in finding a great house in Ocean Lakes at an unbelievable price the week before July 4th [major red flags]. They will comment, share their info, DM you\u2026 DO NOT fall for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve seen some [scary] things on Facebook.
<\/strong>Groups are not safer. We have seen Groups use chat bots to \u201cjoin\u201d Facebook users to their Facebook Group. The users have never “asked” to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware, you may find yourself an administrator of a scam page or group<\/strong> – one you did not know about! They take names and photos from existing profiles and create groups\/pages to scam others. TIP:<\/strong>  Check the content and creation date of Groups and Pages.<\/p>\n\n\n

Vehicle Pass Required to enter Ocean Lakes.<\/strong> What? They didn\u2019t tell you\u2026? Yes, we are a gated-community and every vehicle must have an official pass associated with your site. You must fill out paperwork (BTW \u2013 this is done online through our official site).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cyber criminals Don’t Respect Trademarks.<\/strong> Drives us crazy! Sandy Starfish deserves more respect, and so do our guests. Scammers steal our stuff, too! Our logos, our photos, our good name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paperwork.<\/strong> Sometimes the thieves steal our paperwork and even make up \u201cofficial\u201d forms. Really?! (Yes.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of payment options and last-minute calls<\/strong> about additional charges and using \u2013 Paypal, Venmo, Chime. Use a credit card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
